The walkthrough
Choose a player that copes with a long list
VLC plays anything but presents the list without a guide grid. Kodi with IPTV Simple Client adds a proper TV guide and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android boxes. Smart IPTV suits Samsung and LG televisions. If your device runs TiViMate or IPTV Smarters, use the Xtream login there instead, which brings more with less effort.
Understand what the link contains
The address looks like http://server:port/get.php followed by your username, your password and a setting for the list type. Because the credentials sit inside it, anyone with the link can use your connections, and changing the password is the only way to stop an address that has leaked. Do not paste it into public playlist sites or share it in group chats.
VLC: open it as a network stream
On Windows choose Media, Open Network Stream; on a Mac choose File, Open Network. Paste the link and press Play. Open the playlist view to browse channels, which appear with their group names once VLC has read the list. Use the search box at the top of the playlist to jump to a channel by name instead of scrolling past thousands of entries.
Kodi: set up IPTV Simple Client
In Kodi, open Add-ons, Install from repository, PVR clients, and install PVR IPTV Simple Client. Open its settings (recent Kodi versions ask you to add a configuration first), set the location to Remote path, and paste the link into the M3U playlist URL field. Restart Kodi and the channels appear under TV. Kodi then builds its own channel database, which takes a few minutes the first time on a list of this size.
Add the guide as XMLTV
Players that read M3U usually need the guide as a separate XMLTV address. Ask support for it: it follows the pattern http://server:port/xmltv.php with your details attached. In Kodi, paste it into the EPG section of IPTV Simple Client; in other players, look for a field named EPG URL or XMLTV.
Line the guide up with your time zone
Set the device time zone first. If listings still sit a whole hour out, use the player’s guide offset; Kodi’s IPTV Simple Client has an EPG time shift in its EPG section. Remember that the UK, Ireland and Portugal run an hour behind most of continental Europe, while Finland, Greece, Romania and the Baltic states run an hour ahead, so a guide that looks right in one household can look wrong to a relative elsewhere.
Smart IPTV: send the link to the MAC
Open Smart IPTV on the television to see its MAC, then enter that MAC and the M3U link at siptv.app/mylist and restart the app. The Smart IPTV guide covers activation and the usual errors.
Trim the list to the countries you watch
Most capable players let you hide groups after loading. If yours cannot, and the list is slow on an older device, ask support whether a playlist limited to particular groups is available for your account, which loads much faster on low-memory televisions.
When it does not go to plan
Channel names show strange symbols
Accented names from French, German, Polish or Nordic channels need UTF-8 support. Current versions of VLC and Kodi read them correctly, so update an old player or switch to one that handles UTF-8.
VLC shows one entry instead of a channel list
VLC treated the link as a single stream. Check the whole address was pasted, including the list type setting at the end, and open it again through Open Network Stream.
Kodi lists channels but the guide is empty
The XMLTV address is missing or Kodi has not processed it yet. Add it, restart Kodi and give it several minutes. Clearing the guide data in Kodi’s PVR and Live TV settings forces a fresh import.
An old link stopped working after a renewal
The M3U link contains your username and password. If either changed with a renewal or reset, the old link no longer works, so use the link from your most recent message.
The browser downloads a file instead of playing
That is expected. Opened in a browser tab, an M3U link simply downloads a large text file. It is meant to be pasted into a player.
Kodi reports that the playlist could not be loaded
Open the IPTV Simple Client settings and check the location is Remote path rather than Local path, and that the URL field holds the complete link. After correcting it, restart Kodi so the add-on reads the list again.
Channels from one country all refuse to play
Try a channel from another group to confirm the account is working. If the rest play, send support the group name and one example channel, since that points to a problem with those feeds rather than your player or link.

Questions about M3U playlist
Is an M3U file the same as an M3U link?
A file is a snapshot of the list at one moment. A link fetches the current list every time it is opened. Use the link, so changes to the line-up reach you automatically.
Can I edit the playlist to remove countries?
You can save a copy and edit it in a text editor, but a saved copy stops updating when the line-up changes. Hiding groups inside the player is more practical.
Is M3U8 something different?
M3U8 is an M3U list saved with UTF-8 encoding, and the same extension is used for HLS streaming playlists. Most players accept both.
Can the same link sit in two players?
Yes. The link is identical everywhere. Your plan limits how many streams play at once, not how many players hold the link.
Should I use M3U or the Xtream login in TiViMate?
The Xtream login. TiViMate accepts both, but the Xtream route brings the guide and on-demand library without a separate address.
What does the type setting at the end of the link do?
It tells the server which flavour of playlist to return. The extended variant adds group names, logos and guide identifiers, which is what lets a player sort channels by country and match them to guide data. Leave it exactly as sent.
Why do groups appear in a different order in each player?
Each player sorts groups its own way: some keep the playlist order, others sort alphabetically. Most let you rearrange or hide groups once the list has loaded.
Does the M3U link work in players on a phone?
Yes. On Android and iOS, players such as GSE Smart IPTV and VLC accept a playlist URL. On a phone, though, a player that takes the Xtream login usually gives a tidier layout for a list this long.
How often does the playlist change?
The line-up is updated from time to time as channels are added, renamed or retired. Players that fetch the link each time they start, or on a schedule, pick those changes up without you doing anything.
