Euroskara – IPTV Subscription for Europe - Channels and Leagues Country by Country

Android TV, Google TV and Android Boxes in a European Home

Android TV hides behind more European badges than any other platform: Sony Bravia, many Philips and TCL televisions, Google’s own streamers, the Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi’s Mi TV Box and a number of broadband operators’ set-top boxes. The first thing to establish is not which player to use but which kind of store the device shows you, because a television sold in Italy and a no-name box imported through a marketplace can carry very different versions of Google Play. Once that is clear, TiViMate or IPTV Smarters goes on like any ordinary app.

Have these to hand

  • Android TV or Google TV television, streamer or box
  • A Google account signed in, with its country matching where you live
  • Your Euroskara Xtream login
  • Ethernet, or Wi-Fi on the 5 GHz band

Still waiting for login details? A 24-hour trial costs nothing, or you can compare the plans first.

The walkthrough

  1. Check which version of Android the device runs

Open Google Play from the home screen or the apps list. A certified Android TV or Google TV device shows the television edition of the store, with large tiles built for a remote. Some cheap boxes sold online run tablet Android instead, and their store lists phone apps while hiding the television players. If yours looks like a phone store, jump to the first entry in the errors section rather than fighting it.

  2. Set language, region and clock before installing

On Google TV open Settings, System; on older Android TV sets the same options sit under Device Preferences. Under Language choose English with your region, for example English (United Kingdom), so dates read naturally. Under Date and time keep network-provided time on and confirm the zone, whether that is London, Lisbon, Paris, Warsaw or Athens. Every player draws its guide grid from this clock, so getting it right now saves confusion later.

  3. Install TiViMate or IPTV Smarters

In Google Play, search for TiViMate IPTV Player or IPTV Smarters Pro. For a television, TiViMate is the stronger choice: its guide scrolls by channel and hour while the picture keeps playing. Smarters makes more sense if the same household also has Samsung, LG or Apple screens, since it looks the same on all of them. Store listings differ from country to country, so if one is missing, check for the other.

  4. Add the account as an Xtream login

In TiViMate choose Add playlist, then Xtream Codes login, and fill in the server address, username and password. Smarters asks for the same three values after Login with Xtream Codes API, together with a profile name. Keep the http:// and the port in the server field. An M3U link would also work, but the Xtream route brings the guide and the on-demand sections with it and needs no separate guide address.

  5. Keep only the countries your household watches

After the first load, open Settings, Playlists in TiViMate, select the playlist and manage its groups. Keep the countries people at home actually follow, perhaps the UK, Ireland and Portugal in one house or Germany, Austria and Switzerland in another, and untick the rest. Nothing is deleted and every group can be restored later, so it is worth trimming hard. The guide then opens in a moment instead of dragging through markets nobody uses.

  6. Turn on frame rate matching

European television is broadcast at 25 or 50 frames per second. In TiViMate’s playback settings, switch on auto frame rate so the television changes to 50 Hz for those channels. On an Nvidia Shield there is also a Match content frame rate option under Device Preferences, Display and Sound, Advanced display settings, and Google’s own streamers carry a similar option in their display settings. The difference shows on sport, where panning shots stop stuttering.

  7. Choose soundtracks and subtitles

Plenty of channels send more than one audio track, and some include subtitles. While a channel plays in TiViMate, press select to raise the overlay and use the audio or subtitle option to change track. Smarters has matching icons on its playback bar. What appears depends entirely on what the broadcaster sends with each feed, so a missing second language on one channel is not a setting you have missed.

  8. Schedule guide updates

In TiViMate’s EPG settings, set updates to run every 12 or 24 hours so fresh listings are waiting each morning. If one source is consistently an hour early or late while the Android clock is correct, open that source and use its time shift value to correct it, rather than moving the device clock and upsetting every other app.

When it does not go to plan

Google Play shows phone apps and no television players

The box runs tablet Android. Install Downloader or a file manager that opens APK files, fetch the player’s official installer, and allow that one app to install unknown apps when Android asks. On certified Google TV devices the same route exists but needs developer mode first: Settings, System, About, then press select on Android TV OS build seven times.

The guide lists programmes from yesterday

The device clock has drifted, typically after a box has sat unplugged for weeks or when automatic time was switched off. Turn network-provided time back on under Date and time, restart the device, then run a manual guide update from inside the player.

The picture freezes for a second every few minutes on Wi-Fi

Many broadband hubs sold by European providers join the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands under one network name, and a television in the next room can hop between them. If your router’s admin page allows it, give the two bands separate names and join the 5 GHz one, or run a cable: almost every Android TV set and box has an Ethernet port.

Someone is narrating the action over the soundtrack

That is an audio description track, provided by some broadcasters for blind and partially sighted viewers. Pick the standard track from the player’s overlay. If the television itself has audio description switched on under its accessibility settings, turn it off there as well, since some players follow the system preference.

TiViMate reports that the playlist could not be loaded

Check the port is present in the server address and that nothing is typed before http://. Then look at the end date in your activation message to confirm the plan is running, and retype the password one character at a time instead of pasting it.

Questions about Android TV

Does this work on a Sony Bravia with Google TV?

Yes. Current Bravia sets run Google TV, so TiViMate and IPTV Smarters Pro install from Google Play exactly as above. Older Bravia models on Android TV follow the same steps, with some settings under Device Preferences instead of System.

What about Philips televisions?

It depends on the operating system, which Philips varies by range and year. Models on Android TV or Google TV follow this guide. Some recent Philips ranges use Titan OS, which has a much smaller app store; on those, a Google TV streamer or Fire TV Stick in a spare HDMI port is the dependable route.

Do Hisense and TCL sets sold in Europe work?

Many TCL models in Europe run Google TV, which makes them straightforward. Hisense mostly ships its own VIDAA system in Europe, with a separate store, so this guide does not apply and an external streamer is usually the simplest answer.

Nvidia Shield or a Google streamer?

The Shield has more processing headroom and a long record of software updates, which helps with very large guides. Google’s streamer is smaller, newer and easy to find in European shops. Both handle 4K feeds and frame rate matching without trouble.

Can a broadband operator’s TV box run TiViMate?

Some operator boxes in Europe run Android TV with the full Google Play store, while others use closed systems or an approved list of apps. If Google Play opens and TiViMate is listed, it will work. If not, a separate streamer is far less trouble than trying to get round the operator’s restrictions.
