Have these to hand
- Apple TV HD or 4K on current tvOS, or an iPhone or iPad on a recent iOS
- An Apple ID whose country matches where you live
- Your Euroskara Xtream login or M3U link
- A 4K television and HDMI cable for the Apple TV 4K

The walkthrough
Check the country on your Apple ID
On an iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Media and Purchases, View Account, and look at Country/Region. Apple lets you change it there, but only once subscriptions are cancelled and any store credit is spent, so change it only if you have really moved. An Apple TV signed in with the same Apple ID uses the same store, so fixing it once covers the house.
Choose a player
IPTV Smarters Player is free on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV in many countries and takes an Xtream login. iPlayTV is a paid tvOS player with a tidy guide, and GSE Smart IPTV runs on both iOS and tvOS. TiViMate does not exist for Apple devices at all, so ignore anything with a similar name. Availability varies from one country’s store to the next, so search for all three before deciding.
Set region and time zone on the Apple TV
On the Apple TV open Settings, General, Language and Region, and choose English with your own region so dates and formats read naturally. Time zone is set automatically from your network on current tvOS; if a guide ever sits an hour away from the wall clock, check Settings, General, Time Zone before blaming the player.
Install and sign in
Open the App Store on the Apple TV, search for the player and choose Get. Open it, pick the Xtream or login option, and enter the server address with its http:// and port, then your username and password. The Apple TV Remote in an iPhone’s Control Centre offers a proper keyboard whenever a text field is active, which is far quicker than the Siri Remote’s strip of letters and lets you paste the details straight from the activation message.
Switch on Match Content
For European channels this is the setting that matters most. Open Settings, Video and Audio, Match Content, and turn on both Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate. With frame rate matching on, the Apple TV changes the television to 50 Hz for programmes made at 25 or 50 frames per second, provided the player passes that information through. Without it, long football pans show a steady stutter.
Set preferred audio and subtitles
Settings, Video and Audio, Audio Language sets a preferred soundtrack language, and Settings, Accessibility, Subtitles and Captioning controls how subtitles behave. Third-party players decide whether to follow these, so during playback also open the player’s track selector, where a multilingual channel lists each soundtrack it carries.
Add the iPhone or iPad
Install the same player on the phone or tablet and sign in with the same three details. It is handy in the kitchen or on a train, and your plan counts streams playing at once rather than devices signed in. On mobile data, choose the SD or HD copy of a channel rather than 4K so a data allowance lasts, which is worth remembering when roaming elsewhere in Europe.
Or send a channel to the television with AirPlay
If you would rather not install anything on a television, play the channel on the iPhone and tap the AirPlay icon. An Apple TV receives it, as do many recent Samsung, LG and Sony televisions that list AirPlay support. The quality depends on the home Wi-Fi rather than the phone, so keep both on the same 5 GHz network.
When it does not go to plan
The player I searched for is not in the App Store
Your Apple ID country decides which store you see. Confirm it as in step one. If it is right and the app still is not listed in that country, choose one of the other players, since they all accept the same credentials.
The channel list loads but playback just spins
Try another channel in the same group to rule out one feed. Then switch the playback engine if the player offers an alternative in its settings. If every channel spins, restart the Apple TV from Settings, System, Restart and check the connection under Settings, Network.
The screen goes black for a moment when changing channel
That is Match Content doing its job: the television blanks briefly while it switches between 50 Hz and 60 Hz, or between SDR and HDR. It is normal on most sets. If it bothers you, keep Match Frame Rate on and turn Match Dynamic Range off, which removes many of the switches.
A narrator describes the action over the soundtrack
That is an audio description track. Choose the standard track in the player during playback, and check Settings, Accessibility, Audio Descriptions on the Apple TV, which makes described tracks the preference wherever they exist.
The iPhone keyboard prompt never appears
Both devices need to be on the same network with Bluetooth on. Add the Apple TV Remote to Control Centre on the iPhone, open it, select the Apple TV, and the keyboard appears next time a text field on the television is highlighted.
Some channels look dim and washed out
An SDR channel shown while the Apple TV forces HDR output can look flat and grey. Under Settings, Video and Audio, set Format to 4K SDR and leave Match Dynamic Range on, so the Apple TV only switches into HDR for programmes that actually carry it.

Questions about Apple TV and iPhone
Is IPTV Smarters on the Apple TV App Store in Europe?
In many European countries it is listed as IPTV Smarters Player for tvOS. Listings change, so if yours does not have it, iPlayTV or GSE Smart IPTV take the same login.
Is the Apple TV HD good enough?
For HD and Full HD channels, yes. It cannot output 4K or HDR, so on a large 4K television the Apple TV 4K is the better choice. The Match Content settings described above appear on both.
Can I watch on a Mac as well?
Yes. Open the M3U link in VLC or IINA, or use a desktop player. The Windows and Mac guide covers each option.
Will the iPhone app work when I travel around Europe?
The login works wherever there is a decent connection. Hotel and train Wi-Fi are the usual weak point, not the account. The connection limit on your plan applies wherever the streams are played.
Why is there no sideloading as on a Firestick?
Apple TV only installs apps from the App Store. EU rules have opened alternative app marketplaces for iPhone in the EU, but for IPTV players the practical route on every Apple device is still the App Store.
Can each person in the house keep their own settings?
tvOS supports several users, each with their own Apple ID for purchases. Whether an IPTV player keeps separate favourites per tvOS user depends on the app, so check your chosen player before relying on it for separate lists.
